For most things, he struggles with the attention span to really get into any one thing. Not for building or designing, though. He can sit for over an hour building or designing different things over and over. One of the ways he really gets into "the zone" to sit and create for a long time would be to start with an instruction (any kind of instruction) and after a successful instructional build, he's ready to design on his own. Tangrams are really fun for him for a number of reasons (and really fun for me, as his educator parent, because of their educational capacity). Aldo really likes that they're easy to use, colorful, and have two options for instructions: by color or by shape. ![]() When having the colored pattern, Aldo was able to make an intricate and beautiful image like the one pictured above. When given the shape outlines, he is able to spend more time matching the shapes. It also makes him feel more like he has the creative freedom to experiment. A logical minded kiddo, Aldo really loves the opportunity to experiment and try new things. Once he completes a pattern, he's much more inclined to do it again and experiment again. One thing we struggle with is Aldo's need to be successful the very first time he tries anything. The colored pattern helps him feel successful in his actions because it's easy-ish to do something well the first time. As soon as he has a success, he's more inclined to try something he might not get right.
